That’s Not My Body! The Post-Baby Blues

I was reading the “That’s not my…” series of books to my kids tonight. They kind of look like this.

It gave me a brilliant idea, and I came up with my own version:

“That’s not my body…”

I thought it was a cool way to illustrate the disconnect some of us feel with our post-baby bodies.

That’s not my body.

Is it?

Warning: contains medical drawings of the female anatomy.

  1. BRILLIANT! You is genius. Pitch this to a publisher, stat. (Have you seen the ‘OMG that’s not my baby’ and ‘OMG that’s not my husband’ parody books? This is WAY better.)

  2. Oh god. I laughed, and then I cried, and then I laughed again. Someone once referred to post-baby boobs as ’empty tube socks,’ can’t remember where, and it’s a mental image I’ve never been able to shake.

  3. Far out, I’d buy this. My question however: what textures are we doing on these pages? I mean, these books are all about the scratchy, bumpy, fluffy feely bits. I’d love to know what’ll happen on these pages. I have a feeling I know where the shaggy material will go.

  4. I’m choosing to stay in denial. Those are my perky boobs, that is my… Sheesh!!! Who am I kidding!!! I’d subscribe to these books. Not availed for first time mothers though. She must discover the new found changes herself!

  5. Bonus points for keeping the little mouse on each page. Kids love spotting him along with all the touchy feely bits (that aspect will be interesting!). You are full of brilliant ideas Zilla! I’d also love to see a follow up – That’s Not My House… the washing is folded, it’s clean, the bread box is empty…..
